APOLLO & MERCURY Ltd

"Apollo&Mercury" Ltd - Salon of Art and Auction House - has been operating since 1986. It originally existed as a circle of friends and people sharing the same ideas and exchanging and trading works of art between themselves. "Apollo&Mercury" Ltd was originally established as a sole proprietor company and in 1995 registered as a limited company. Its first partners were Dimitar Fitzov and Igor Markovski.
"Apollo&Mercury" Ltd deals with a wide range of activities, such as attributing works of art, organizing auctions, restoring and preserving works of art, as well as evaluating works of art and providing consultation services.

Up to now "Apollo&Mercury" Ltd has organized 50 auctions of works of art, the last 30 of which at the "Sheraton" hotel in the Bulgarian capital Sofia and in the "Tromontium-Princess" hotel in Bulgarian second biggest city of Plovdiv. The main principle observed about the auctions used to be their not being made public. However, in the last two years "Apollo&Mercury" Ltd adopted a new, more media-open policy in this respect, which is why the auctions have been made public with admission fee.

Auctions usually follow the agenda:

- Inspection of works (60 minutes prior to opening);
- First part: Modern Bulgarian Art (10 - 15 works);
- Second part: Classic Bulgarian Art (25 - 35 works)

A third part was also introduced at one of the auctions held so far (09.12. 1999) - "West European Fine Art", which was designed to kind of provoke collectors and connoisseurs of works of art, because works dated to the 17th, 18th, 19th centuries were exhibited, as well as such of the 20th century, originally painted by world remowned artists such as Elti De Vliger, Pissaro, Salvador Dali, Grigoresku, J. Stewart, M. Goodman, J. Pascin, H. Dirosa and others.

In 2002 "Apollo&Mercury" Ltd released a monography of famous Bulgarian artist Pavel Krastev (1890 - 1916) in 1000 copies, which are not on sale, but are exclusively given free in the galleries and art institutions Bulgaria-wide, as well as to true art connoiseurs.

The Bulgarian National Library "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" has expressed its gratitude for the donation made by "Apollo&Mercury" Ltd in a special letter dated 28.06.2002, No 730. Pavel Krastev's monography has already been sent worldwide to the city libraries in Washington D.C., New York, Stanford, Burkley, Seattle, Bloomington, Madison, Chicago, London, Paris, Strasbourg, Warsaw, Prague, Bucarest, Budapest, Skopie, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kiev, Minsk, Talin, Riga and Vilnius.
